Regs to Know

Is your clinic or hospital in Missouri? A recent change to the existing radiation safety rule requires that you have your radiation producing equipment inspected by a qualified expert recognized by the Missouri Radiation Control Program.

In Missouri you must register your x-ray equipment with the state radiation control program.  Registration must be renewed every 2 years.

Beginning in 2014, a change to an existing rule established by the Missouri Radiation Control Program  (MRCP) through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, means you must call a Qualified Expert in radiation safety for a periodic radiation safety survey. Only medical physics experts who have been radiation safety registered and approved by the Department of Health and Senior Services can perform these surveys. This change applies to all Class A facilities who use mammography, radiotherapy, CT and fluoroscopy. Following the initial survey, you will be required to have a radiation survey every 12 months  from a qualified expert.
The frequency that you must have inspections done depends on the type of facility you have: Class A, Class B, Class C or Class D.

To learn more read the Frequently Asked Questions developed by the MRCP.  The Class designation and the frequency of surveys is described in question #8.
